Originally commissioned by Untitled Gallery, Sheffield, this work marks a turning point in my practice in the move from black and white to colour. Regeneration looks at the changes taking place in the city of Sheffield, a city renowned the world over for its steel-making industry. This work looks at the last days of the cities largest steel producing plant prior to demolition, not only at the process of demolition itself and the topography of the industrial landscape; but also at the marks left by a desperate and shell shocked workforce who could see their working lives coming rapidly to an end. The work then extends onto the streets around the factory site to encompass a population being swept aside by the process of redevelopment.
